Meet Miss Drake
Family
My name is Jessica Drake, and I grew up in Peculiar, Missouri. My Father still lives in Missouri, but my Mother and I have recently moved to South Carolina. I have one brother, Jake, who is two years younger than me. At the moment, he's learning how to scuba dive! I am not married, and I live in Conway with my cat Kisa and my dog Kali.
Teaching and Education
This is my first year teaching at Marion Intermediate School, and I am very excited to be here! I received my degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Library Science from Missouri State University in 2011, and I am currently working toward my Masters in Learning and Technology. Previously, I was a tutor for the 3rd and 4th grade Missouri Assessment Program. For the last few years, I have been a Teacher Associate at Peculiar Elementary in Missouri, working with kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students to improve their reading and math skills.
Why the ducklings?
I tell my students every year: I collect rubber ducks because my name is Miss Drake. Male ducks are called drakes. I love ducks, especially the little ducklings, so I started collecting rubber duckies, and when I started teaching, I decided my classroom would be duck themed. My students love it, and I love receiving their drawings of ducks. Most of my collection comes from my students and my mom, who never hesitates to bring me another rubber ducky!
